Is it just me or are car manufacturers picking the wrong names for new cars lately?
A couple examples of what I mean:
Ferrari LaFerrari instead of the F70 (or some variant)
Chevrolet SS instead of Chevelle (like Dodge's Charger)
Toyota FT-1 instead of Supra

The FT-1 is just a concept, they aren't going to call it a Supra. If they make it it's almost 100% guaranteed it's going to be called the Supra.

FT is Toyota's concept designation, just as LF is for Lexus. If the FT-1 goes from FT-1 to FT1 when it enters production as the LFA went from LF-A to LFA, that would indeed be a terrible name. However, Toyota doesn't use alphanumeric names for their Toyota-branded cars, so they'd likely go with Supra.
"SS" for what should've been Chevelle (Or Bel Air, or Impala...) was indeed silly, and it only gets sillier if the 130R is given that Chevelle designation and not Nova.
The LaFerrari name is silly, but Ferrari has a precedent for silly names, so it's not exactly out of character.

If Chevy called the SS a Chevelle, all the same people who had a buttpocalypse over the new Charger would be flinging poop at GM HQ.

Good thing nobody knows the SS exists.

And if the Supra exists, it should have a gated manual option.
